This is awesome! I hope you are telling them about the IS at Mt Tom next spring. It could serve as a goal to get (some of) them to keep orienteering in the interim.
Great to hear that Alex is still engaged!
Hope he's recovering well...
Yes, I have the IS in mind. Is it definite? What date?
Navigation Games is working on a plan to have 5 middle schools in Cambridge start an interscholastic league. However, so far the recommendation was to do that league in the spring, which would be May and June, and therefore after the IS Champs. So we need to think about that. It is a lot of work to pull together this proposal: we need advocates, and ideally coaches, at all 5 middle schools prior to talking with the Athletic Director for the district. We are working on it. We are also working on a high school club.
We will also tell NCDS.
Just telling the schools is probably not enough. Getting a team together means finding a champion in the school, resources for practicing, students who will commit to it, etc. We have been talking this up to CRLS for several years with no traction yet; we even had kids interested in starting a club but they could not find the required teacher sponsor. It's hard work.
I do think we should "just tell" every school (and homeschool group) in Massachusetts about the IS Champs, ideally before school is out this spring, probably in the form of a letter + flyer. The flyer would outline how to get a team started, what equipment you'd need, what the practices would look like, etc.
I was hoping we'd be able to do this in the wake of the "big splash" of OUSA's marketing plan around World Orienteering Day, but at this time that plan looks to be at some risk. :-(
The IS is still in sanctioning, but I don't think there's any competition for it. So it will almost certainly happen at Mt Tom April 21-22.
I really appreciate all you do for this!
Cool. When will West Point meet be? I think they announced it at this year's meet.
Impressed as always by everything you´re doing. I see a lot of it on Instagram and it shows your dedication :)
It's true, Barb is dedicated and doing so much!
Begin non sequitor.
Unfortunate news about the Instagram account: I've been locked out and it seems impossible to recover my way into it. I can reset the password but then it wants an extra security code which never arrives. The password reset email always arrives so they obviously have the right address can get through. A bit of google-fu reveals that I am far from the only one to have had this problem and there does not seem to be any way to contact anyone at Instagram anymore to tell them! This made me so frustrated the other day that I may have thrown things.
End non sequitor.
That kind of thing would really frustrate me if I had an Instagram account, so maybe I am better off without one.
Update: I still receive update emails from Instagram of the "check out posts from your friends" variety. And I have no way to stop them at the source since I can't log in. I blame 45.
