a feature of Newcastle maps because so many of the bush areas close to the urban areas are old coal mining leases - the mine subsidence is one of the reasons it is still bush and not covered in McMansions, but even that is slowly changing.
The subsidence crack symbol shown mainly as a reminder that they exist on the map area, so don't put your foot down one - never used as control sites

when we find deep or dangerous cracks, especially if there is evidence of an underground fire or connection to the old workings, we contact the Mine Subsidence Board, which has remediation of subsidence hazards and damage as one of their responsibilities - they usually appreciate having a good map and accurate location to work with too.
