It was very frustrating. Have never lost my SI stick before - bizarre. And then just couldn't find the bloody thing and could feel the time ticking away as I scrabbled among leaf litter in an ever-widening circle.
I could feel the stress and frustration in your description. It sounded like one of those orienteering dreams when you get to the start without compass/map/shoes/etc/
