is you fat bike slower than a regular mt bike on the single track at cuyuna?
Good question. Last year I did some timed loops at Carver Lake as a baseline. With my regular mt bike I think I did 29:30. A couple weeks ago I tried it with the fat bike and did 28:30... when I expected to be well over 30. Why faster on the fat bike??? I'm not sure. I did maybe six fat bike races this winter, so maybe I'm just faster. I don't think my low end Santa Cruz is very fast, and it's probably a bit small for me. The fat bike definitely roles over obstacles easily, but on the other hand is more work to roll up hill and down hill. More research is required.
Fat bike roles nice over the rocky sections at Cuyuna, and never seemed slow to me... but I'm a bit of a scaredy cat of high speeds on bikes.
interesting......I guess we could say: close.
