I just upgraded from my brand new Suunto Ambit 3 sport to the Ambit3 sport "vertical" specifically for the barometer. I didn't think it would bother me, but elevation values are completely useless without it (strava correction doesn't work). eg Mt Solitary counted 4500m when its only 2500m, any hill reps in the city are off (don't even show as hill reps) because elevation values on maps are off. I know it shouldn't really matter, but i found it hard to quantify whether i was doing enough vertical training for solitary.
If you want to try the suunto brand before you buy one, you can borrow my (basically new) Ambit3 sport(which i'm now selling). It does pool swimming, open water swimming, cycling, etc, just doesn't have the barometer. let me know and i'll bring it next tuesday.
Ok so your saying you bought the "vertical" one after solitary? Tell me how that goes with accuracy. And why did you buy this one and not the Ambit3 Peak? (They seem very similar except for better battery on Peak) I have a powermeter on my bike - does suunto vertical connect to that?
I probably won't get the sport one because I currently have 2 triathlon multisport watches anyways (vivoactive hr with barometer and forerunner 735xt with GPS based) and tossing up which one to sell.
What I'm looking for is
-connects to powermeter
-strava live segments?
Seems like Fenix 5 is the only one with all that but too expensive. If suunto integrated strava live segments I would be sold.
Why not peak? price. Vertical is $300 currently on wiggle
-barometer vertical YES ambit3 NO
-connects to powermeter YES
-strava live segments? Don't think so. It bluetooths to your phone tho...
-wrist hr? NO
Price Vertical $300 currently on wiggle, Ambit3 250, Peak $450
Battery - can set up modes to last 10h, 20h, 200h with less accuracy
Fenix is definately better in everyway, but costs more than twice as much.
Ya i've been very tempted by it with that price on wiggle. Getting sick of how expensive garmin is
