You're in the know :) I'm thinking I should probably get around to acquiring a southern hemisphere compass. What are the aussie options (is it still possible to buy one in SA?!)? I see that OsOA only sells Silva, which is not my favourite...

I've always been happy with the Silva Jet (apart from their tendency towards bubbles) and even use it for rogaining, but Wildfire Sports https://www.wildfiresports.com.au/ have Moscow compasses if they're what you prefer.

Thanks UJ, that's the one I had in mind but couldn't remember who made it!! I'm never using Silva again because of chronic bubble problems, and I'm personally not a fan of Moscow's design.

Now to actually do some orienteering... :D

My northern hemisphere Silva seems to work fine on the mapboard as long as it's kept level, as I found to my benefit today when I was heading west and thought I was heading north (my sense of direction at dusk through busy streets is not so good).

I always thought the bubbles were my own fault for having put my compass into depressurised checked baggage instead of carry-on, but they get annoying at night on a cold rogaine!

The last two rogaines I did my compass has started getting a bubble around the 7hr mark and it grows as time goes on. Fortunately the last one was only 9hrs; unfortunately the previous one was 12hrs.
