I find that accelerating all-out from stops is a fun way to turn a bike commute with wasted time at stop lights into a bike workout with welcome respite at stop lights.

If I go all-out from the moment the lights change until I'm forced to stop for a light, then I get great exercise, and come to see red lights as saviors that give me a welcome - but all too brief - pause to catch my breath.
