I am considering purchasing some portage wheels to enable car free paddling. Any recommendations? They'd need to move a boat, from the size of a 9' kayak up to an 18' canoe, smoothly on road, 5mi downhill to river and 5 miles uphill back. I'd be towing it by myself. Would like it to be solid enough that kids can sit in the boat while towing/portaging.
Perhaps not ideal, but I used a mid sized plastic wheel barrow for a few years. I wasn't going nearly that far though - maybe half a mile on well maintained road.
I bought
these for Cowboy Tough last year and had no issues.
Jay, look pretty minimal. No issues with the boat falling/sliding off?
Wheels come with a strap that wraps the boat and keeps it secure to the wheels. We could run with the boat on it.
We used a trolley very similar to the one JayXC linked for ITERA last year. It handled double stacked tandem sit-on tops and all our gear in the boats.
No idea how much trekking we did but a lot more that 5 miles on poor country roads! :)
