Hard to argue with that. Will work one in sometime. Thanks!
It is interesting the push-back against pricy road races are to these free or mega cheap no-frills events.
My parents would take part in these weekend morning Fun Runs at Gage Park, which I barely remember, but I think they were free as well.
One of my life's running goals is never to ever give another single bent penny to tacky, cheesy non-runner companies such as , and in no particular order, VR pro, Around the Dry Bay-gel and whatever asshole runs the Oakville half marathon and decided $100 entry fees would be a cool thing to do to the local running community. Between MEC and these freebie 5ks I may never need to spend over $25 to do races within a training cycle which is great because they can go pretty badly and it's good to be able to blow up or blow them off.
the park run is a very cool international movement. the (Hamilton) Beach Strip version was started by Sharon Gallant (F.A.B) this year and totally run by volunteers to just get people out and active in running with a start/finish line...with NO COST! it seems to be building momentum slowly at this location, but hopefully it becomes a hit as the weeks go by - such a great concept!
Edmonton has a wicked cross-country series called the Frank XC Series (started by a guy named Frank). For the longest time it was $2.50 with chip timing. Some pretty crazy courses, but not like you can complain about a race when you've paid $2.50 for it.
Posted the info at the school board staff info exchange and to one of our phys ed system program developer people. That should net a few participants.
And the Halton catholic board with queries to Hamilton catholic
Let me know when you decide to race one of these. It would be fun to go with a group of us at roughly the same speed.
Ok. It'll be a few weeks. Mentioned it to Scott and Harper too
same speed? Ok count me in.
