This weekend's attendance made me think about the proposal to move to 4 major championships and the discussion of separating Masters and US Champs (think I remember that right). Due to timing, that's effectively what we had - great masters competition, but almost no US or former US team members in the elite category, and a very few juniors looking towards future JWOCs. That made me sad. But the masters competition was quite fun!
It almost feels to me like team trials and the elite / junior (M/F20 only) titles should coincide.
That leaves the more junior juniors. We had almost none...maybe 10 total across M/F10-16, which means there wasn't much satisfaction for most in "winning." Interscholastics may make more sense for age group champs, except that our current school structure does not match the age group structure. Not sure how to fix that - maybe you have to run in your age group category to also be an age group champ?
And we missed seeing you! ;-)
One question - is the idea of a lower-cost / "free" national ranking day still out there? Jon and I are designing courses for the WIOL champs and will push to make that a nationally ranked event if COC will support.
We need to refine the proposal a bit, and it's stalled, because I'm only one person doing too much and incapable of saying no to things. But yes, I think it's imperative that we push this proposal forwards, because the experience will be better for everyone. So sad that we only had 10 of them at our national championships, but I guess there is a conflict with the current Euro trip.
Yes to the idea of free NR days. I want to make this a reality soon so that you guys can do that for WIOL champs!
