Chas:
Bad luck.
It looks a very good team to me. M45 might be a weak link but we should still win.
Jeff Pyrah is a surprise. I saw him at the JK but did he do anything else? He might struggle in Scottish terrain. Stevie B is a pretty good reserve though (should he agree to run).

The JK was the only selection race Jeff did, although he did do very well there. He is obviously pretty fit. He told me he hasn't really been orienteering for years and only did JK because it was local.

I am missing out essentially because I haven't got the speed to compete in southern areas. Out of the people selected ahead of me - Jeff, Darryl, Laurence - only Laurence competed in either of the Lakes races and I beat him by 18 minutes.

No problem with Dave and Steve ahead of me - in fact I think that is probably the best team considering the area.

I agree. Dave and Steve ahead is probably a good call, but Jeff? He was very fast at the JK, but that was very different terrain to Scotland, and not very technical, and those were the only ranking level races he's done in the last 12 months.

What were the other selection races? In the majors, you were: first Englishman at BOC, second Englishman at Northern Champs, second Englishman at Midland Champs. (All M45).

I'd say you were hard-done-by. You'd enjoy Inshriach and take some scalps.
