If you have an iPhone, she can just use Find My iPhone or Find My Friends. If you're buying a GPS tracker, I'd go with the Delorme Inreach (recently purchased by Garmin) rather than the SPOT.

I was using spot as a generic, but had the inReach in mind. She specifically wants to be able to identify where I am independent of cell coverage, which we know to be non existent in some of the places I am likely to do long rides in the next few years.
