I have been in the area but never went up the road. What route did the run follow?
Fantastic. Great job ... glad you can still walk!
there are some awesome mountain races that take place all over the Alps.
Way way back (1977?) I did the Sierre-Zinal in Switzerland (2200m of ascent 1100m descent and 31 km . http://www.sierre-zinal.com/la-course/
... no idea of my time but I still have the medal for finishing. Do you have a medal for the grossglockernerberglauf ?
that race looks ridiculously hard!.....the one we did was mentioned as one of the more "doable" Mountain runs......but I can tell you it was all I could handle. And glad I did it before I got any older. It was just within my reach.
We did get a medal....but the memories of the experience it what I value the most....
Yes..... this looks like an awesome event (i saw some of your FB pix) You guys have to come over one evening and give us the low down on the trip .
Those 1000m+ ascent mountain runs are Ok if you are able to spend a few weeks in the mountains every year (which i was doing in the 1970's). For those of us who live in the flatlands of the midwest 1000m+ ascents in a day are a real tough challenge .
The trip was fantastic....and you are right, the 1000 m climbs are tough for flatlanders like me....out of about 1000 finishers I think I beat 6 people but I had people with me the whole way and I loved the challenge. Kari did a bit better finishing 30 minutes ahead of me.
The altitude also affected me.....I turned to Kari at the start line and said "my HR is running 120 just standing here" ....Its much less than Colorado but enough to make a tough challenge even tougher.
We would love to recount our trip.....we always worry about boring people....lets see if we can gets some plans to get together..
