Um, I don't think you're supposed to run, generally speaking, in such circumstances. Was the reason for that to get back with the dogs?

Well, um, right. I did make myself look big and I did turn around to confront the one, but the other had flanked us and I didn't have control of the dogs. So we made a break for it.

I've sometimes needed to inspire two dogs to follow me, and I understood Trav's instinct to run. Dogs have a hard time resisting a running human so they usually give chase. Running is the next best thing to a leash when you need the dogs to come with you NOW.

If it were just me and the coyotes, I wouldn't run because they probably have similar instincts. Coyotes sleep on our property and we often hear them howling at night but in 19 years here, we have rarely seen one. If I did see one and it didn't take off, I would be super concerned.
