One of our workouts before a long AR used to be a ride across Forks of the Credit Park on hilly trails to the start of the Elora Cataract Trail. Then to Elora for lunch and ice cream, then return. Unfortunately, Fergus sold the old railroad right of way so there is a detour onto roads for a few kms. The out-and-back is about 100 km and the hardest part is the final few kms through Forks!
That sounds like a great ride! Lunch in Fergus might save some road riding (although I thought the wide, gravel shoulder of the road into town was pretty good for riding) (and Fraebert's is a good place to for lunch/picking up goodies for a picnic....just sayin').
I was thinking a lemonade stand in Orton and/or Hillsbourgh would've been appropriate, on such a warm summer day. And of course, there is ice cream in Erin, if one just can't quite make it all the way without nourishment.....
There's a marked route to get through Fergus although I don't remember it as really well marked. It goes right through town. The first time I didn't realize that and I just kept looking for signs of the old trail (which I could see, at that time anyway) until we stumbled onto the continuation on the far side of town. Our goal was Elora since it's a really cool village for lunch, and a 100K day is a nice, round number. But Erin, Belfountain and Fergus would all be great stops too!
