Reminded me of when I lived in Honolulu in 1982, and drove out to Lanikai most mornings to windsurf. There was a place I had to turn right and an old house or garage across the way that had the graffito "Surfas rule!" And then a day or so later in a different color paint, "Wind" was added in front Then a day or so later "wind" was painted out, only to return again, over and over in a continual struggle for dominance.

Ha ha! I guess when you're waiting for 'the perfect wave' you have all sorts of time for such dialog.

But Chicago is truly becoming a bike city. As are a few other big cities. Did you see this article in the NYTimes a couple of days ago about more bicycles than cars on certain NYC streets?

Much faster and more pleasant to bike, particularly through grid-locked streets at rush hour, than to be entrapped in a steel cage, sitting on an explosive tank of gas. But when I'm riding with Soupbone, I gotta slow way down. He's still a bit cautious in the city. :-)

Yeah, drivers got so sick of thinking they were going to kill a cyclist because they kept dive-bombing in front of them, running lights and stop signs and cutting across traffic, they gave up driving. take back the streets, urban guerillas.

I did see that article, but also was aware a month or two ago of a cyclist who was struck and killed by a bus directly in front of our daughter's apartment in Manhattan. I don't think city biking would be something I would enjoy much. Too nerve wracking. I had my own personal experience with it in '82 in Honolulu. A car mirror hooked my handlebar and I went down, my bike going under a bus. Very dramatic!
