Discussion: Chain rings

I have a 1x with 30 on the front and 10-42 on the rear. The only time I wish I had a little more granny gear is grinding up gravel roads or loooong sustained climbs, but mostly I just need stronger legs! Pascal just bought an oval front chain ring and he loves it. Says it really helps with that little extra oomf on the technical climbs.... I didn't choose to get a 1x, the bike I ended up with just came with it, but I do love it. Nice to only have 1 hand to shift and the other to work the dropper makes setting up the cockpit easy with less levers to accommodate.

I solve the "less levers" issue by not having a dropper!

What wheel size do you run? I'm still on 26 inch wheels, so get lower gearing by default. Trond (who has also decided he wants 1x) is on a 29'er, so would likely need a lower front chain ring.

I run 27.5, as does Pascal.

I also wasn't in the market for a dropper, but it came with the bike and I think I use that more than my gears, especially on XC stuff.
