What happened after the last 90pt control? You seem to spend 2hrs near the control.
And what was the exact reason for pulling the pin?
Looking at the GPS track it appears you guys were going pretty fast, you had more technical controls and more off track travel but you covered almost as much ground as we did with our track running. Maybe too fast in the heat?
I never did see your whole route but it appears you were going to end up with a long period across the top of the map with not many points. Were you planning to get all the controls? We felt we had to skip the top center bit because there weren't enough points in it for us.
You seemed to be running well before the event on the morning runs.
Probably need to try and work out exactly what happened that caused you to pull out and then try and work back to see what things caused it. In Alice Springs you and Tane went well and didn't have any issues and it was hot there. Could it be the timing of your blood removal etc? Or was it the pace was too high? Or maybe food or drink the caused your body to become upset?
Maybe need to do some long hard training sessions to try and reproduce the problem and then change things one at a time to find out what is causing the problems then work out how to fix it. It's tough though if it takes 12hrs to see the problem.
It seems like the 12hr earlier in the year with Matt went well, maybe see if you can work out what was different then? Looking at the distance covered it seems like that must have been a fast race too?
Hard luck on the outcome Tim but I think you are being a bit hard on yourself claiming this was the race you've trained your whole sporting career for. There are many more races to come that can go better! You guys seemed to be going along well until after the 90ptr and you seem to be running really well in general at the moment.
I am also curious to know what exactly happened to cause you to pull out. Did Marco run to the waterstop and get a car to come pick you up?
