I'm going to my first crayfish party tonight! We're joining Jonas' cousin's family in Falun.
We still haven't had a housewarming yet in our new place in SF, because Jonas wants to get a couch and table and bed frame first. But, sometimes it's better to just have a forcing function that makes you do it!
Ooh, crayfish party! I went to one of those in 1978 soon after arriving in Sweden; I mostly remember wearing funny hats & singing songs I didn't understand. And pulling apart tiny crustaceans that I didn't really like.
We have always found that scheduling a party is the best way to get a clean house. ;-)
yes - the hats were mandatory tonight.
Yes, hats, singing and decorations were included!
Glad to hear the old ways are still in effect. :-)
Peggy, I forget, where did you live in Sweden? And what club did you run for?
First time I lived in Sweden, July 1977 - July 1978 (oops, so I guess the crayfish party was in 1977 ...), I lived in Alingsås, a small town about an hour's train ride north-ish from Göteborg. Wasn't orienteering then. Just a HS senior exchange student.
Second time was April 1988 - September 1988. I lived with Malin Wästlund's family in Norberg, an even smaller town, near Fagersta. I ran for Norbergs OK.
(Malin won two World Cup races that spring, and ran the ~10th fastest women's 10K track time later that summer.)
BTW, Alingsås claims its the capital of fika. Maybe a good reason to visit. http://www.vastsverige.com/en/alingsas/
(I did orienteer once there, during gym class.)
Sounds familiar, Sam, Judy and I stayed about 10K east of Alingsas at O Ringen 2015 in Boras. Lots of lakes! And we did fika every day we could.
