I've got orienteering in Pawtuckaway in September listed in my log every year since 1997 except 1998 (I was about to move back from Colorado) and 2009. Not sure what was up with 2009; I know there was some year when I set courses for one day of Camping Weekend and vetted the other day, and maybe that was it (though I would have expected earlier). Maybe it was 2004, because I have only the canoe-O listed that year. Maybe 2009 I set the WHN-O but didn't run a course myself... yeah, that was it. And 2003 was the Sprint Series final tournament and a relay.

I remember Sprint Series fondly. I was just reviewing the first two weeks of Sept each year, so perhaps Sprint Series was simply not on the usual weekend...

The tournament was 8/30, looks like there was a regular course on 8/31, and the relay was on Monday 9/1.

Interesting... I very well remember doing the sprint series thing, yet my AP log has zero entries from Aug 24 to Nov 18 of that year. I wonder if there was some sort of data loss on the AP side of things? I can't imagine that I wouldn't have any log entries - even if I weren't training I usually keep comments about how I'm feeling etc on there.. So 2003 is likely a data issue, not a lack of attendance thing...

I wonder if we can dig up results from somewhere. I think the sprint part, at least, was a CSU deal, setting by feet.

On the other hand, when were your cardiac issues?

Cardiac was April 2000, though Lyme issues came and went through early 2000s.

sprintseries.org has still got a placeholder, but no apparent historical results links. I'm not concerned, just kind of wierd. I let Ken know, doesn't appear to be a software thing...

And it looks like sprint series finals at Pawtuckaway in 2005, not 2003? And the Mega that year too?? http://www.petergagarin.org/
Maybe I did just fall off the grid in fall of 2003...

It looks like you may have been off the grid Dec 2002-May 2003 as well, only 5 entries during that period, including one that starts with "After 6 weeks of doing nothing but working, I got back in the gym"

But, I did find the 2003 sprint tournament (was that the first one?)

Yeah, looks like I was confusing the 03 & 05 sprint tournaments which led to me thinking I was active in fall 03... thanks for digging....

I think 2003 was the first, but I'm not positive (and assuming we don't count the finals of the other "Sprint Series" back in the 1990s). I remember that 2003 event because I got less lost than most in the seeding round and managed third place. That put me up against a guy in the next round who couldn't navigate too well, but looked like he could stick to me and outsprint me. And indeed, he was sticking to me like glue, until I suddenly took off as fast as I could go in a random direction, got enough of a gap, and hid behind a tree or something. Took me a bit to relocate, but my gamble was that I wasn't as lost as he was. I jogged around the rest of the course, and when I got to the finish, long after most were done, people said, "Believe it or not, J-J, you won that round". I just shrugged and said, "Yeah, I know".

Then in the next round I was up against Zhyk, and I didn't stand a chance.

J-J: According to my log, you did courses at Pawtuckaway in 2004, the mega in 2005, and started doing the WHNO in 2006.

OK, right. Looking more closely, there were a number of years when I was setting the WHN-O that I put controls out on Saturday, and then either did nothing else (2009) or just the canoe-O or a Sunday course. And now I vaguely remember the 2005 sprint tournament, where the Mega was the Sunday entertainment. I guess I must have hung the controls for that mostly on Friday.
