You should only be in the big ring if you can also maintain a decent cadence, below about 50rpm you become a lot less efficient and put a lot of load on your muscles and joints. You can develop more power by applying a lower force at faster rate, and it is easier on your body (you recover faster and are less likely to get injured)

Ahh thank-you! Il save trying to go up big ring until I'm fitter/ when I can rest after and meanwhile try keep a good cadence up!
