I use what I call the "Neil Dobbs technique" (though it might actually be a modification on what he showed me, I'm not really sure) which is essentially at the stage where you would normally double tie the laces you do an extra lap.
Have stopped using tape apart from really really important races since adopting it.

As tested in Hickory Run today, the daisy chain works splendidly, when done properly. Apparently, I hadn't tied my right shoe correctly and it came undone, but my left shoe stayed snug the whole way through. I'll try the Dobbs technique next.
