Big tow gets you fourth place? Worked for me! And its pretty normal at WOC too, so defo. proper orienteering ;)

Similar terrain to world games too.
So long as there is a decent map and decent planning then it's proper o as far as I'm concerned. It's still a challenge, a different one maybe. Running harder, punished for smaller errors. I don't think it should be dismissed.
Totally appreciate people may not enjoy it as much, it's hard to beat culbin or loch vaa on that front for me. But so long as mapped and planned well then it's a good orienteering challenge.
