This girl must be a keeper if she is repeatedly willing to let you put her life at risk.
Also, we are shocked that you underestimated the time and resources needed for your endeavor...
What is this life at risk nonsense?? We had a headlamp!
huh? He brought a
girlyoung lady, some food, water, and a headlamp. What else does a single guy need on a mountain after dark? ;-)
Actually reminds me of a family hike several years ago in the Adirondacks when the kids were maybe 12 years old. We were doing a loop route up a mountain and back. I thought we had plenty of time and then some but what I didn't know was the trail I was planning to return on had been washed out from flooding the previous year. We ended up having to cross a river and bushwhack a ways to a parallel trail, which ate all our time reserve. I knew we had enough food/water, and at some point when it became obvious we would be hiking out in the dark I casually mentioned, just to allay any worries, that I'd also brought a headlamp. After a brief discussion I then learned that all 4 of us had each brought a headlamp, though none of us had mentioned it during the packing stage.
El Paso SAR would have gotten the call, not Teller, so it's fine by me ;-). Adventures like these tend to be the memorable ones. Warm enough clothes are probably the most important bit.
