You were expecting them.
Reno’s are stressful. We carefully selected and hired a man to do most of our bathroom last year. He was excellent but had a tendency, when stuff got really real, to say ‘not my problem’ at key junctures. Even though I thought I had all the supplies on hand and all the details worked out we still hit a few major bumps that made my blood pressure skyrocket. Good luck!!!
Thanks! I have tremendous dread of renos for the reasons you mention and more. I already hit the "not my job" line this morning when I asked how much mess it would make in our living room and whether the guy would be hanging plastic sheets to limit the dust to the area around the patio door-sized hole in our wall. But apparently, it isn't anybody's job to limit the mess - unless I'd like to take that on.
Even scarier, this guy's job ends after he's knocked the hole in our wall and put nice bricks around it (and hopefully some plywood over the hole). It is someone else's job to install the patio door and a different someone else's job to fix the drywall and repaint the wall, hopefully in a similar colour to the rest of the room - gack. That's not counting the electrician and the home theatre wiring, whose cables will need to go somewhere new. And then it is somebody else's job to finalize the permit and build the balcony outside our living room so we don't live forever with a patio door that opens onto a 1-story drop.
