You guys and the kids would have fun here! That may have been our only clear, sunny day here so I’m glad we got up to see the views.
Seriously amazing scenery. I think would just stand there and stare at the awesomeness. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! I thought that first day would be the highlight of our trip by far - especially since it was primarily a work trip for 'Bent. However, yesterday's hike to North Dome on the other side of the valley was equally scenic - maybe even more so. We just got home after a long day of travel but I'll log the rest of our trip after I've had a good sleep.
Where are all the tourists? I would expect more people on the trails....
November is a great time to explore Yosemite Valley because most of the tourists have left. That's why it's affordable to hold a dental course in the park! :) The down side is that some facilities are closed or operating on reduced hours. Campgrounds, hotels and the two nicer restaurants were still full but it was quite civilized on the trails and park roads. I'm told it's a zoo in summer.
We got lucky. There was supposed to be a huge snowstorm (above 7,000') and rainstorm over the weekend but it fizzled out and turned into beautiful, cold weather. Two major roads in the park were closed in anticipation of the storm, which limited our ability to explore beyond the Yosemite Valley but it also kept people off the high trails. Those roads are closed for the winter after the first significant snowstorm, which usually happens around now, so we weren't counting on them. There was plenty to do around the valley for one trip. If we go back, I'd want to see other parts of the park.
