We cycled from the bogan capital (it's awful, really really awful) up to Cootha the other day - first climb I've ever done where I wanted to stop and rest - it was 35C on the climb though, so suspect that was the cause. I could NOT have done it more than once!!
Friend told us cops sit waiting to book cyclists on the descent? Unbelievable. At 85kph, my eyes are not on my speedo....
sounds like you did the front side? more exposed, but not as steep as the back.
the cops do sit either on the way down the front, or down on the hill in front of the botanic gardens. the back is pretty twisty, so going much faster than the speed limit would be pretty nuts - particularly as cars often cross the center line to overtake bikes on the way up.
I was going to say that given the combination of nutso drivers and other random traffic you'd be crazy to go that fast anyway, but then I checked my strava...
yeah we turned left at the start - no breeze, just baking sun - was middle of the day. It didn't feel or look that steep but I felt like I was being tortured! Today I'll go up and down the joyous Mt Lyndsey Hwy service roads.... exciting stuff (but less abusive bogans).
you need to find some better places to ride. and maybe start a little earlier.
I have - am back home in England now :-) Although quite a temperature shock - will need to rug up on the bike.
