As a first year out teaching appointment I got the raw deal as far as room allocation so I was doing sprints between rooms at the extremities of the secondary school between lessons and I could never afford to be late or delayed as the kids would wreck the place. I lost weight that year even from Uni standards and was pretty fit. Having proved my worth (cue angelic trill) I got my own home room the next year - next to the Staff Room. That was the start of the downhill run.

Sounds like a fairly similar distance to that between the Maths and Geography departments at ANU. A couple of years of daily experience of that route-choice problem did serve me well when there was a long leg from the latter to the former at Sprint Canberra in 2014 (even though a few new buildings and other obstacles had sprouted in between the two in the intervening couple of decades).
