I thoroughly enjoyed running on French Creek in 2013; I should go back. How were the woods? Also, the maze overlay is a fascinating idea to encourage precision and map reading. What did you think of it; did it appreciably change your orienteering experience and process?
The woods on French Creek North are absolutely beautiful. Other parts of the park are more of a struggle.
I felt the maze was really beneficial as an exercise. It made me practice a number of skills that can be forgotten on a normal course if you're not focused on them: distance estimation, bearing, anticipation, and constant map contact while also simplifying.
Also the GPS orienteering app makes it really easy to overlay a maze on a course you've designed.
