My guess is a lot of those mispunches, were due to the cold. I noticed several controls took an extra bit to register, at the time I assumed, maybe that I was just first and they were asleep, but now I think that it was probably due to the extreme cold.
the cold was not that extreme -- around freezing -- these units can be used for ski-O, the specs say above -4F is fine.
I "mispunched" since I mapped those swamps a month ago so had extreme advantage of knowing where everything is, hardly looked at the map at all.
Ok, fair enough. Maybe they had just gone to sleep. Not sure, but I noticed a few of them acted slow. Weird how people mispunched ones at the finish. Just mental beat down by that point. I know I was!
I imagine Gibbard must have done what I almost did - reading along on the map, from 9 there was a line east towards s/f, and I was planning a route from 9 to S/F before I remembered that the clue sheet had 11 c on the first map, so I figured I'd find those. No guesses on Mark.
