Do you know how much it hurts to do that? I wouldn't know given my fastest is 18:08 but I imagine it hurts more than that did. The 3km I did in 10:30 a couple of years ago just about killed me.

Your 10km goal is much less strenuous (and achievable by me).

I've run 16:55, and I've gone sub 19 off not very much training. I'm hoping that I'm not so old that I couldn't still do that. I figure I'll need to do some proper training to do it, but that is the plan.
The 10km one - probably more achievable, but still faster than I've run since 2015 (when I really wish I'd run a 10km race in the lead up to my marathon), but I did run sub 39 off bugger all prep, so again I'll be grumpy if I can't get it done.

The other reason for a 5km target is I'm planning to add a few time trials back into my training to try to keep myself more accountable, rather than just drifting along between potential races that i don't end up doing. First one in a few weeks (before students are back at school) to let me know how terrible I am at the moment!

We should train together (mentally at least). I want to do a sub-18min 5km before I get too old and/or die. I thought my knee might have ended that goal but it doesn't seem to have done much. Just not fully running fit at the moment so need to get back to doing intervals properly.

If I can get through another 3 weeks of running (ish) I'll start adding some faster stuff. Will let you know what I have in mind if I get that far.
