Sounds like a great day. Too bad about all the SH and what that will mean for stability later. Might have to ski on the other side of the planet until the facets break down... :)
SH = surface hoar. A specific type of snow crystal that can form during clear calm nights with the right amount of moisture in the air. A winter version of dew... Unfortunately SH crystals are angular and form very poor bonds with other snow crystals making SH layers a common failure plane for avalanches. It also takes SH a long time to break down into smaller, less angular pieces making SH layers a problem that tends to persist in the snowpack for weeks or months.
