I ran around October Mt a few years ago, looking at it as an orienteering venue. I started up a trail just south of the campground, not seeing much in the way of features, then over to the Boulder trail, thinking, must be some good features here, and not seeing much as I headed down, finally spotted the rock the trail was named for. Maybe there are more stones out there one can see in the winter?
No there aren't more stones to be seen in the winter, at least not of that size.
I do think that October Mountain State Forest would be OK for, say, a 24-hour Rogaine, but not for much else.
I have thought the same. Using LIDAR files, one could make a map with most features.
