Are you going to enter a musical team? It's the kind of event where a campfire with cycling guitarists would be popular!

I’m waiting to see if some of my guitar mates want to give it a try. One from Tennessee is willing to try a tag team, but I don’t think my legs would get me past noon on a traditional bike.

Tag team is really hard and the members never get to see each other. I've always done Solstice on a team of nine because it's so much more fun and sociable that way!

Nine would make it very sociable. I had suggested to the gang that 4 committing would make it civilized and more would mean more fun and less work.

They now have a category for teams who don’t ride in the dark. That would allow some socializing and guitar playing.

4 is still hard work and a lot less social. I've done it a few times.

That's because there are only 4 modes for any racer at Solstice:

1) Riding

2) On deck to ride next (change clothes, fill water, go to start early to wait, etc.)

3) Just finished riding (ride back, eat, record results on clipboard/whiteboard, change clothes, give teammates updated info about the trails, etc.)

4) Resting/socializing

When there are only 4 people, only 1 person is in resting/socializing mode and since laps only take about an hour, they'll be switching modes soon. But the "no night" category might make that more fun if you have a smaller group.

The no night would be a very different race, but consistent with my normal summer solstice.
