Ran into the same dilemma! Wound up crawling on my belly for about 20m to get to the other side of the green. Of course, the best route choice would have been to go N from #14 in the first place, but somehow, at first glance, that looked to me like it would be more climb than the route with the little (non) trail.
My brain wasn't working very well at that point, it appears. Just a couple of minutes earlier, I left #11 headed for #14, got halfway there before realizing that it was in fact #14 and #12 was back the other way. I was just so excited at that point to finally be able to run (after all the bashing from #2 to #10) that I guess I was just running too fast.
BTW, also thought that the bag for #15 wasn't quite in the right place, which cost me another 20 - 30 secs at the end of the leg.
Yeah, I strongly considered going north out of #14, but there'd been so much extra vegetation out there that I was worried about getting stuck and covered in poison oak. I have a firm rule about route choice in the Bay Area: always do extra climb/distance if I think it will reduce my poison oak exposure. It definitely slows me down, but I'm always ok with prioritizing future me over present me when it comes to poison oak!
I also was a bit confused by the placement of 15. I saw the bag from a ways off and thought it wasn't mine, but then realized it kind of had to be. Anyway, no foxtails or star thistles are pretty much always a win for me at Tilden!
