Melbourne's equivalent of Gosnells perhaps? :-)

Seriously, it's a nice area. Close to lots of hills for training on road or mtb. I remember buying my first pair of O-pants from Alex' mum around 1980 (probably before Alex was born?), just around the corner from that school - though the school probably didn't exist then.

I was born in 1977 and he's older than me.

I say middle of nowhere but that's really because of the route we took to get there, which seemed to avoid all the housing. It's actually very close to the Dandenongs, which are really just Melbourne's (far) eastern suburbs.

You probably took the best route, we always go the 'back' way through Warrandyte and Diamond Creek to the airport. Yarra Valley (though further up than you got) is our home from home when travelling to interstate O events.
