Well there's aggressive rehab, and there's the aggressive rehab of the dedicated athlete. Reminds me of when I broke my wrist several years ago and was given a number of exercises, one that involved holding a hammer by the handle and rotating the hammer head back and forth. I did that for a few days and had some growing pain with it. Next visit I was remarking on how painful it was and the therapist asked me how many times I was doing it at a time, and I said, "Oh, a couple of hundred." She replied: "Five! Five times!"
I'm not quite there yet (and no hammers are involved).
At the hospital I started with five - rather painful - reps the day after surgery. There's just three very simple exercises and when they seemed to work fine I doubled the number of reps. Your example shows how often I would be doing it too if it wasn't for the pain.
I suppose we're not very good patients...
