Yes, the trail really goes over the NE smaller hilltop coming from the N, then turns SE down the slope. Is the trail coming up from the SW still existing?
The current version of the Bear Brook Trail Marathon has the runners go over it twice from each of the two directions. A great relief when you hit that "peak" for the final time with 1 mile to go to the finish.
Must be a "fun" event tho the lungs may burn and the heart leap out of the chest. The path did continue in a SW direction. There's a lot of forest off the map in most directions at BB. But a lot is also thick. Catamount area is pretty much up & down.
