Actually most of the long distance events here are relatively short - maybe 10-12k depending on terrain. But the swedish league and any championships are maybe 20-50% longer. So it's a bit of the same problem here that the regular events don't really prepare runners for the big events. However, I don't think that the average punter H/M21 really wants to spend 2 hours out on the course every time there's a long distance event.
