If you use Garmin Connect, it will automatically send stuff to a Strava account so it really doesn't take any effort. I don't use mine religiously (its off at the moment), but its mildly rewarding when it alerts you that you've set a new PR on a particular segment. And 'segment hunting' might give you another motivation for a ride, just to get out and try out someone else's segment on a route you haven't ridden previously..
I've been adding rides to Strava for a little while now, just takes a few seconds. And both your points about the rewards (mild as they may be) are very true.
