When I was college age, my folks moved into a house with a pretty extensive but hardly picture perfect lawn--rather sparse and rather weedy. Dad bought a lawn tractor to deal with it but it was still a bit of a project to mow it (couple of hours?). I naively volunteered to procure fertilizer / weed killer and apply it. Dad said, "God no, don't do that! I'd have to mow it more often!"
