Well said, Emma. Thanks for that, and good luck with the rest of your summer!
My takeaway, it's a sign that you've 'made it' when you get your very own anonymous troll. Grats.
so agree, anvil - nice shouldering it, AG!!!! and congrats again....on being top notch at sports, and life!!
Well said, Emma! Congrats on your JWOC performance and enjoy WUOC :D
I didn't say much about this whole episode at the time but I'm very proud about how you seemed to handle it and rose to the occasion of putting it behind you and racing well in the middle distance races the next days.
I didn't think it would help much to have a long conversation about it at the time (I hope that was the right approach). Also, I'm definitely not a psychologist and have dealt with that kind of thing myself so I'm not sure if the advice I could have given would have been particularly good...
Anyway, good on you for the way you handled it and I think you know, at least in some level that that guy was totally out to lunch.
It's fair enough to have an issue with blatant following but that is an issue for organizers and the IOF. As an athlete you play with the hand you are dealt and you do what you can. We discussed strategy when we saw the start list and you played your cards perfectly. I don't think more needs to be said but even if you were to go on with this debate it's still pretty much impossible to find fault with how your race unfolded... You didn't tuck your map away and leave the decision making to Simona. You orienyeered from start to finish and just like in a relay situation, I'm sure you both benefited but that's just the way the sport works and at a world champs you take what you can get.
Good work Emma! Enjoy Finland!
