Should the casual reader of your log assume that all non-moving bike parts are covered in sticky blue tape during the summer months?

Amazing that you have biked that much without a single flat. That is a real testament to the Massachusetts road crews, keeping the roads immaculate. They must be out there every day in the pre-dawn hours, with their efficient little whisk brooms and formidable Dyson D8s. It must be satisfying to know that your tax dollars are being so well spent.

Either that, or you are riding on solid steel wheels.

Especially impressive are the Massachusetts off-road crews, since that's where he does a fair amount of riding.

Actually there is one part of the bike covered with bright blue tape, a small section of the seat tube.

I'm sure SF can come up with the reason(s) why, all of which I can guarantee in advance will be wrong. Though JJ ought to be able to figure out.

And I'd guess that the reason SF is surprised by no flats is that where he comes from, most flats are caused by gun shots, intentional or otherwise. You have to assume that at least 50% of the riders in Laramie are carrying, plus 90% of the drivers of pick-ups, and things just happen.

My understanding is that it is a subtle means of signalling--that you are an elite member of the deep state resistance. I've seen lots of riders in this year's Tour de France with those little pieces of tape, and I hear lots of NFL players are swapping mouth guards to a blue color to indicate their allegiance as well.

I've got a guess on the tape. If I'm right, it's similar to the reason why a small section of the downtubes on one of my hang gliders is covered with black tape.

Perhaps making it too easy, but here's a shot of the magic piece of tape, whose function is?
