As a member of the US community, thanks for restructuring the championship system and providing a free NRE to clubs.
It's made my job easier as I'm coordinating a training camp with a club that'll be using their NRE. And now my athletes can have high level competitions across the country.
Thanks for all the work you put it into your position on the board. I never expected you guys to solve as many problems as you have. And you keep going!
I hope that helps to balance things out.
Always easier to throw stones than build something. I thank your efforts as well.
I agree. You're doing a ton of good stuff, and many of us know it.
I thank you.
Yes, I emailed you earlier because I want to write that yes, you have been trying to structure the timing of champs. But no, clubs weren't so open to that. And that the timing you came up with was March - June for Jr. Nationals, Sept - Dec for Nationals, and Masters anytime as long as it's more than 6 months since the last one. All of which I think is brilliant. The problems come in with regionality, when are the good times to run in each region, how many clubs are available so the same 1-2 clubs aren't doing it each year, etc.
I saw your plan for the next few years and you are definitely making things happen. I am so glad you're on the Board and working to make things better!!
I want to reiterate what everyone else has already said here. You have been making a lot of very positive changes, and I really appreciate all your work too! All of the problems that orienteering faces aren't going to solve themselves at once, so it's great to see some people with new ideas stepping up and making change happen!
You just have to be aware some folks are never satisfied. Kissy is right on every point! We appreciate having you on the board.
I always find it amusing when people make comments like "the Board should make clubs do" this or that. The board is as strong as its members' strengths, but the adage about leading a horse to water still applies.
Alex, I know you and the Board are putting a great deal of effort into trying to fix things, and that Championships are one of the first things you worked on. Everything can't be done at once, and changes take time - I'm sure everyone understands that. As with everyone else in this comment section, I'm very appreciative of all you are doing, as is, I'm sure, anyone else who knows what you're trying to do. Thanks, and please, please keep up the good work, and don't get discouraged if not everyone sees things the same way.
Having spent a few car rides driving while Alex has done board business in the passenger seat, I agree that she's certainly doing something and definitely, definitely cares.
Hear, hear. It's frustrating when people who aren't on the board or attend board meetings make assumptions about what people who are on the board are or are not doing. Please don't get discouraged!
