Back 20+ years ago, I had a correspondence with a syndicated newspaper columnist (from the South) who wrote about the finer points of the English language. One of the issues was the past tense of "sneak". I preferred "snuck", but he opined that "sneaked" felt sneakier. I think your option is best, though.
That's interesting and I will go on to note that portions of Cheyenne got smashed up pretty good when a large hail storm snucked up on them yesterday afternoon. "We never saw it coming until it was nearly here, and then it was too late, and we had to take shelter from the storm," one resident was reported as saying in the newspaper. Not clear if he was saying it in the newspaper, or if the newspaper was reporting what he was saying.
