Sounds like some pretty proper adventuring. Thanks for scouting out some rollerski roads up there for me, too :)
Basic rule from hiking with scouts: wait up for everyone at all the trail junctions. Otherwise you can end up with a major search for kids scattered in different directions over miles of backcountry trails.
These aren’t scouts. They all had maps and knew how to use them. They’re all highly fit and capable and trustworthy. But ultimately yes, I’m still responsible for them.
It sounds like out of 5 older boys running down, there were 2 sprained ankles and 1 dislocated knee. Is that really okay? Glad everyone was happy at the end.
No, it's not ok. Which explains why I'm defensive, too.
"They’re all highly fit and capable and trustworthy."
I mean, mostly. But every so often I wonder …
Whew, adventure for sure! Glad it all worked out okay, but kind of scary with the injuries. (I bet you're glad you didn't know about the dislocated knee until after...).
I like to think that these kind of adventures make great stories later, the more things that go wrong, mistakes made, funny things -- as long as everyone survives!
