I’m really glad I’ve done it, and I enjoyed it at the time, despite not being in the right condition for it.
I’d not been on my road bike for two years until a couple of months ago, and so yesterday’s ride was more than 10% of all my cycling distance since August 2016. Nowhere near enough strength in my thighs. And going to bed at 2:30am then climbing in 30°C+ midday heat wasn’t optimal either!
But, it was a good ride. My friend (good cyclist, lives nearby) shadowed me up providing encouragement but not a wheel to follow, so all my own work. Progressively retreated into a shell towards the top so the last exposed section was me staring at the white lines on the road. Couldn’t have given more than I did.
Great fast descent to Malaucenes. We simply don’t have roads of that scale in the UK. Then a crawl back round to the car, nothing left.
Disappointed to be nine seconds over two hours, and I’d have liked to be about 15 minutes quicker, but clearly some training required for that.
So you didn’t fancy doing the triple ascent then? Weak:-)
It’s certainly on my to do list and I’m impressed with your motivation to keep going. Well done.
4K in under 4 minutes looks a fun payoff for your efforts too!
