I hear there was an event on there yesterday.
A MTBO event? Maybe I should've done that instead...
Yes it was our long champs there yesterday. Both M21 and W21 had one entrant each.
You and Tash?
Unfortunately MTBO in WA has been on the decline for a while now.
Not sure if/when I'll get to another MTBO or orienteering event in general
Next year might be no W21 entry. I've been on the decline for a while now :)
Yes we have a cabinet full of trophies now.
It's been declining in all states although Vic and Qld (and Newcastle's score events) still regularly get 50+ participants but they say that's lower than usual. Conversely two of the last four Aus Champs (NSW in 2017 and Vic in 2015) had record numbers but that was largely thanks to the Kiwi contingent. I expect next year's Aus Champs could be the biggest yet, Maryborough in Vic.
Its interesting because mt biking has grown heaps in the past 5 years or so
But map reading is declining - geocaching is probably going ballistic!
People don't want to have to think anymore. Just look at the new car features - cars letting you know if you go over the lines, braking if you're not watching and even spotting speed limit signs for you (not to mention inbuilt GPS devices to tell you where to go). People will be able to sit in their cars and watch movies rather than using their brains or having to pay attention. Why would you want to read a map? That's just an unnecessary skill that a computer can do for you.
I guess thats how people end up driving their cars into harbours and lakes - the GPS said so...
"You have reached your Final Destination."
