I never saw you there, but I must have been channeling your spirit because for the first time in forever I wore no helmet: I didn't realize it until an hour in. We did the same 15 controls in the middle, but in the opposite direction. I too went right by 91 without seeing it on the map.
Nancy and I arrived about 9:57, and took the second wave start at 10:10. You probably just missed her at your changeover, I think she came in with about 6 minutes to spare. Funny thing is, I got a glimpse of you as you were headed out at 10, and thought, "Was he wearing no helmet? Nah, couldn't have been...".
BTW, what was the deal with the "bonuses" that you mentioned?
From the course notes (same as in previous years):
There are 9 special controls that will get bonus points if you do multiple ones. These nine controls end in '0' (10, 20, 30, etc.). If you go to any two of them, you get 10 bonus points; for special controls give more points according to the following: [2-10; 3-30; 4-60; 5-100; 6-150; 7-210; 8-280; 9-360).
So I guess I went to four, so I get 60 bonus points for a total of 1510?
Yep. Results are on the website. I went to five on the bike for a bike total of 1520. But I wasn't really in your division.
I guess I could have read the most notes more closely. Knowing now what the deal was, I see could have done a different routing for the last few controls, since 50 would have been so valuable. But I'm not sure I could have figured out in real time. Still, not too bad considering my casual approach to the whole thing.
