It looks like you had fun out there. Nice results, too. Was there anything in particular that you felt you did really well?
Thanks! It was a lot of fun! I was quite happy with how well I was able to maintain map contact in the rocky terrain. I really struggled with that this spring (my first time orienteering in rocky areas), but this time around I had a much better grasp of how the different rock features were mapped and it all seemed to make sense.
Isn’t it amazing how fast you can navigate when you have a good mental picture? I have to remind myself often that a few seconds more to visualize pays off. It’s also interesting what you can learn from maps/terrain that just seem to “click,” and those that don’t.
Glad you enjoyed some fast Laramie orienteering - great terrain, and some wonderfully complex stuff, too.
